Films We Like is honoured to announce the acquisition of Canadian theatrical rights to A Long Winter, the newest feature from filmmaker Andrew Haigh. A MUBI production made with Film4, The Bureau and Alberta-based Nomadic Pictures, A Long Winter was filmed in Alberta and will have its Canadian premiere at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival, where it has been selected for the prestigious Special Presentations programme.
Set in the mountains as autumn draws to a close and a family prepares for the long winter ahead.
Adapted for the screen by Haigh from the short story by celebrated Irish author Colm Tóibín, A Long Winter features an extraordinary ensemble cast led by Fred Hechinger, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Caitríona Balfe, Kit Connor and D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai, alongside Manuel Garcia-Rulfo and David Furr.
Films We Like will release A Long Winter theatrically across Canada in partnership with MUBI. Release details will be announced shortly.
