Fugs Film!

A FILM by Chuck Smith

Films We Like is excited to release Fugs Film!, Chuck Smith’s spirited documentary portrait of The Fugs — the radically avant-garde New York band who helped turn 1960s counterculture into a noisy, joyous, politically charged act of resistance.

Smith dives headlong into the band’s world of poetry, protest, satire, and glorious disorder, tracing how Ed Sanders, Ken Weaver, and Tuli Kupferberg transformed rebellion into sound. The fight may have proved exhausting, even unsustainable, but the film finds The Fugs’ spirit still crackling — individualistic, funny, furious, and defiantly alive.
