For Immediate Release – Films We Like is proud to announce the Canadian acquisition of Siri Hustvedt – Dance Around the Self, an intimate portrait of acclaimed writer Siri Hustvedt by director Sabine Lidl (Nan Goldin: I Remember Your Face) which had its World Premiere at the 2026 Berlin International Film Festival in the Panorama section.
Young, curious, and driven, Siri Hustvedt leaves the wide, quiet landscapes of Minnesota for the pulsating life of New York City. In search of the protagonist for her first novel, she embarks on a journey that leads her to become one of the most compelling voices in contemporary American literature.
From the Brooklyn home she shared with her late husband, novelist Paul Auster, Hustvedt reflects on her life and work in Sabine Lidl’s thoughtful and revealing portrait. With New York’s vibrant cultural life as a backdrop, the film offers a window into Hustvedt’s singular way of thinking and creating, and into a body of work deeply entwined with life’s enduring themes: love, memory, and farewell.
