BEAUTY DAY: a film by Jay Cheel
DVD / 92 MINUTES / COLOUR / 5.1 SURROUND SOUND / IN ENGLISH
Ralph Zavadil’s cable access television show, The Cap’n Video Show, ran from 1990 to 1995, spawning a small but loyal cult following. Each week Ralph performed a series of idiotic and occasionally dangerous stunts, challenging the sensibilities of his small town audience. With the advent of the Internet and reality television still years away, his unique brand of gross-out stunt comedy was truly ahead of its time.
After a run-in with the law and a dangerous stunt gone wrong, Ralph found himself ceremoniously pulled off the air. Now, fifteen years and a few grey hairs later, the Cap’n is back! This time around, he’s teaming up with his best friend Robert to film the Cap’n Video Show’s 20th anniversary special. Armed with a handful of fireworks and some gasoline for good measure, Ralph takes a nostalgic journey that’s “a reflection on what drives us to pursue our passions and life life to its fullest” — Torontoist
