A FILM BY BERNARDO BERTOLUCCI
Lorenzo is a quirky 14-year-old loner. He plans to fulfill his teenage dream of happiness by hiding out in his apartment building’s abandoned cellar. To escape his overwrought parents, Lorenzo will tell them that he is going away on a ski trip with school friends. For an entire week, he will finally be able to avoid all conflicts and pressures to be a "normal" teenager.
He plans to live in perfect isolation with his horror and fantasy books. But an unexpected visit from his worldly older half-sister Olivia changes everything. Their emotional time together will inspire Lorenzo to come to terms with the challenge of casting aside his disguise of troubled youth and prepare to soon be thrown into the chaotic game of adult life.
“Bernardo Bertolucci’s first movie in a decade, ME AND YOU, is an intimate, miniature and subterranean coming-of-age drama, a story of estranged siblings (Jacopo Olmo Antinori and Tea Falco) who find and forgive each other in the dank confines of a Roman basement."
- THE GLOBE AND MAIL
- THE GLOBE AND MAIL (Interview with Bernardo Bertolucci)
"There’s something oddly endearing about ME AND YOU, a minor work from the master filmmaker Bernardo Bertolucci."
- THE TORONTO STAR
“ …in this day and age, it isn’t Bertolucci’s tease of incest but the act of solitude enjoyed in secret that seems most illicit.”
- THE NATIONAL POST
"Early on in ME AND YOU, profoundly alienated Roman teen Lorenzo (Jacopo Olmo Antinori) asks his mother if she’d have sex with him if they were the last two people on earth, and you expect Bernardo Bertolucci is heading into risky LAST TANGO IN PARIS territory."
- NOW MAGAZINE
“…[ME AND YOU] most recent movie is a reminder of Bertolucci’s forte for melodramas with closely confined settings."
- THE GRID
"The story is simple in its plot and complex in its emotional landscape."
- TORONTO SUN
“...it is a well-executed picture that appeals in ways that goes beyond the likability of its characters."
- DIGITAL JOURNAL
“...all together ME AND YOU is a nice little character study about the relationship between two siblings."
- TORONTO FILM SCENE
"While the slow pace of the film does begin to weigh down at times, the beauty that Bertolucci is known for shines through from beginning to end, almost carrying the entire film."
- BLACK SHEEP REVIEWS
"ME AND YOU is a worthy film for Bertolucci to strike back with. Leave it to a filmmaking veteran to lend an engrossing spin on the typical teenage character study that feels all too familiar nowadays."
